My company was founded in 1990 when I was working in the
hotel management business and at Jesse
Brown's Outdoor Store in Charlotte, North Carolina. For
most of the 1980's I moved every year or two to form a management
team which "saved" hotels in financial trouble. In each place
I lived, I always fished - in Louisiana, Mississippi, Illinois,
Iowa, Missouri and North Carolina. As the allure of managment
began to wane, I wondered if I could pursue my dream of teaching
men and women to fish.
My very first memory of life is fishing with my grandpa.
I must have been four or five and it was my turn to go with
Grandpa after dinner to fish. My grandfather's father moved
to Center, Missouri in 1890. Several generations have built
the farm from 40 acres to the 500 acres my parents farm today.
Over the last hundred years, Yagers and Isensees have grown
corn, wheat, soybean crops and raised hogs, cattle and sheep.
Farm life with my grandparents, parents, and brother was the
best foundation for the life I lead.
Jesse Brown's was
founded in 1975 by Jesse Brown. Jesse loves all outdoor sports
and wanted to provide all the clothing, equipment and expertise
that is needed to pursue fishing, hunting, climbing, and camping.
In 1990, I spent a lot of time in the store talking fishin'
with the locals. Soon I found myself teaching fly tying one
night a week and then holding casting clinics. I was tired
of moving and loved Charlotte. When the pink slip came, I
just moved my dream up ten years and founded Angler Services
- my guide service based in Jesse Brown's.
At the store, located at Sharon Corners Shopping Center
at the corner of Fairview and Sharon Roads in Charlote, I
have a rod shop to build and repair salt and fresh water rods.
We have over 250 rods, 100 reels and an extensive selection
of flies. We don't have a catalog but are happy to talk fishin'
in person or by telephone.
Over the years, I've fished fresh and salt water. I've built
rods and tied thousands of flies at the kitchen table. My
greatest thrill, beside my four girls, is the light in the
eyes of a new angler as the fish takes the fly. For day trips,
we go to the Davidson River, known as a top river in the southeast
for trout. Three or four times a year, I take groups to the
Green River in Utah, Exuma, Bahamas or Alaska. Each trip provides
the thrill of an angler's life when Mr. Fish is coaxed onto
your fly.
While my business is small, my experience is large. You
can depend on honest appraisals, current knowledge about the
newest equipment, and frank opinions. My goal is your satifaction.
I hope to talk fishin' with you real soon.
Don and Barbara Yager enjoyed trips to the Bonefish
Lodge, Exuma in 1999 and spent their honeymoon there in
February 2000.
